Fifth annual awards program honors area leaders chosen for their exceptional leadership, vision and values

HOUSTON, Sept. 1, 2022Russell Hillenburg, president of Woven Metal Products (WMP) — a premier fabrication facility serving the oil and gas, petrochemical, refining and other industries — was honored today by the Houston Business Journal as one of 2022’s Most Admired CEOs at a local awards ceremony.

Four Houston-area judges selected this year’s 45 award recipients based on their contributions to company success, civic involvement, career achievement and more.

“I’m honored to receive the Most Admired CEO Award,” said Hillenburg. “I’m very fortunate to lead an exceptional group of more than 100 team members who are dedicated to our industry and craft. Our team members are the backbone of everything we do, and I’m dedicated to helping them grow in their current and future roles within our organization.”

Hillenburg has served as president of WMP for more than a decade, taking over leadership of the family-owned company from his father after gaining experience at every level — from shop operator to administrative vice president.

Over the last 10 years, Hillenburg has helped transform WMP to move beyond its identity of a specialty fabricator into a solutions provider and partner for its customers around the globe. He has invested heavily in new technology for the business, including advanced R&D, the latest equipment and updated software, as well as improved working conditions, complete with facility upgrades for more sustainable operations.

Hillenburg is also a long-time supporter of the Houston community. He sits on the Advisory Committee for Alvin Community College’s Welding Technology Program and periodically meets with the program’s students to share updates and insights on the fabrication industry. He is also a founding advisory board member for a local entrepreneurial program for high schoolers, treasurer of the board of the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation, and an annual volunteer with Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. One of his passions is helping young people and future business leaders find their future paths.

Earlier this year, under Hillenburg’s leadership, WMP launched Woven Together, the company’s community engagement program designed to grow the future workforce’s trade skills. The program includes the Spark for the Future Scholarship, site visits for students in trade skills education programs, as well as financial and other support for local organizations.

All 2022 Houston Business Journal Most Admired CEO award recipients will be featured in a special section of the Houston Business Journal this month. Read more about the awards here.
