WMP fully operational after record rainfall in the area
ALVIN, Texas (8/30/17)- Woven Metal Products (WMP), a premier fabrication facility in Alvin, Texas, is proud to announce its facility is fully operational despite Hurricane Harvey. WMP had to keep its doors closed due to record rainfall, high winds and road closures in the Alvin, TX area; one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Harvey.
Hurricane Harvey dumped 43” of rain in South Houston, where WMP is located. Nearby Friendswood, home to many WMP employees as well as WMP President Russell Hillenburg, received over 40” of rain and is one of the worst affected areas. “We have never seen anything like this before in the history of hurricanes. We have banded together, people that could get out have been helping each other, and WMP employees have shown their resilient spirit to answer customer inquiries, process orders and keep things going,” said Hillenburg.
The WMP facility was built to withstand high hurricane winds and rain and took the brunt of Hurricane Harvey unscathed. Steve Miller, head of production at WMP remarked, “I’m pleased to say that no equipment was damaged in the devastation that this storm has brought our community. We have been working closely with our customers and all deadlines will still be met with typical WMP quality and attention to detail.”
While some WMP employees are still unable to leave their homes due to area flooding, many are working at WMP or helping to clean up each other’s homes. “We’ve heard from many of our clients, partners and friends who have called, sent us emails or texts, all checking on us during this time. Some customers have even bumped their own deadline to help us with scheduling. The outpouring of care, concern and compassion is as big as our state,” said Heather Bennett, VP Business Development.
This year, WMP, a third-generation family business, also celebrates its 50th Anniversary. Founded in 1967 by Richard Hillenburg, his son Roy Hillenburg took over the company in the mid-1990s.
